“What is taken from the Land must be restored” is the philosophy of our design intervention.
We opted to select a prime but disused space on an intersection of three defining paths, elevate the island floor, and activate it to become a transient spatial experience, a destination in its own right, and an integral part of the island’s landscape and visual experience. Reflecting the simple and subtle topography of the island, the design posits to mirror the serenity, simplicity, and minimalism of its context, to fade and blend into its surrounding.
The project ultimately serves as an architectural promenade of the city’s skyline, a loop that takes the citizens onto a journey of panoramic views of the city, visually weaving the city of the two banks of the river from a central location. The Science building, now critically entrenched onto the surrounding network, is envisioned to become an inextricable part of the city’s social, environmental, and cultural landscape.
