The project is located in a predominantly quiet residential neighbourhood in Hannover. It aligns horizontally to the street curve with an angular volume, and occupies the street facing half of the lot. Behind the building sits quietly a noise protected court/garden facing east.
The lot shape allows for a maximum of five parking cars which dictated the number of apartments in the building. However, the maximum permissible building height and volume were generous enough to allow for a tridimensional configuration where apartments entwine at mid-levels all while preserving a one apartment entrance per stair flight, increasing privacy. Living space of the lower apartments are opened towards the backyard while the higher ones are taking the street view.
The proposed architecture considers contemporary demands for affordable and flexible indoor arrangements. Double height living spaces where introduced in every apartment to accommodate future living space by the user when needed.
This high adaptability and multiplicity of use of the indoor spaces generate an understated flat façade with diverse windows sizes related proportionally to each room’s volume. The exterior envelop is a projection of the project’s internal configuration.
